Moths can be difficult to identify based on photos. Most species descriptions are based on "fresh" specimens. They quickly become worn. A bit of damage, a bit of discoloration, then a moth can appear to be a different species. The hind wings can be important in identification, but not always visible. Some of the most striking moths have a wing span of one inch or less, and a given species can be highly variable. Treat these I.D.'s with a little caution and this page will assist you in an identification. A lot of the species have been confirmed by experts. ( Note: Some entomologists are using DNA testing for moth species confirmation.)
